Blood Thinners and Anti-Inflammatory Medications Before Surgery

Certain medications can increase your risk of bleeding during surgery. It is important to stop specific medications ahead of time and coordinate with your care team to ensure a safe plan.

    • Stop anti-coagulants and anti-inflammatory medications at least 5 days before surgery

    • These medications can increase bleeding risk during your procedure

    • Aspirin

    • Ibuprofen

    • Celebrex (celecoxib)

    • Diclofenac

    • Fish oil supplements

    • Warfarin

    • Lovenox

    • Eliquis

    Important:

    • Do not stop these medications without guidance

    • You will need clearance and a plan from your prescribing provider

    • Your provider will help safely adjust or “titrate” your medications

    • Follow all instructions carefully leading up to surgery

    • Ask questions if you are unsure about any medication
